Right Place, Right People

The moment. You've got something to say and you're about to drop it in the biggest channel by reflex.

What most people do

Post everything to the whole channel, @-here a hundred people for a one-person question, or bury a reply where nobody sees it.

Why it misfires. Posting to the wrong audience either spams everyone or reaches no one. A question for one person broadcast to fifty is noise for forty-nine; a reply in the wrong thread gets lost.

The rewrite

One person? DM them. A running topic? Reply in its thread. Everyone genuinely needs it? Then the channel - and say who it's for: "For the design team:…"

The move: DM, thread, or whole channel? Match the audience to the message before you post. The right place gets it seen by the people who need it and spares the ones who don't.

Your turn

Take something you'd post to a big channel and decide: is it a DM, a thread reply, or truly channel-wide?

Edge cases. Use threads to keep side-conversations from flooding the main channel - reply in thread, not inline, on anything ongoing.

This week

Send one message to exactly the right place instead of the biggest channel.
